Kure Beach Vacation
Category: kure beach
This collection of vintage-photograph postcards, which can be sent by mail, presents the history of Kure Beach. The beach got its name from Hans Anderson Kure Sr., a Danish immigrant who began acquiring land in the area in 1891. By 1900, he had purchased 900 acres just south of Carolina Beach, towards Fort Fisher. Kure established the Kure Land and Development Company and in 1913, he produced a map of Fort Fisher Sea Beach, which eventually transformed into Kure's Beach and later became known as Kure Beach.
In 1923, Lawrence Kure built the first wooden fishing pier on the Atlantic coast. Kure Beach is also home to DAN PRI, one of the pioneering surfboard companies on the East Coast. Additionally, the area holds significant historical value. From Verrazzano's exploration to the presence of Cape Fear Indians, pirates, lighthouses, the "Rocks," the Ethel Dow Chemical Plant, and the community's involvement in the Civil War and World War II, Kure Beach has witnessed it all.
However, what truly makes Kure Beach special is the people who have embraced and cherished the laid-back and tranquil lifestyle in their own "paradise."
